New Orleans needs to update tree protections in the City Code!

P&PW’s draft ordinance—as drafted in October 2024 by the Department of Parks & Parkways—has been criticized by tree advocates for its “outright omission of critical information that must be addressed.” We agree. The P&PW draft ordinance is inadequate.

Many important protections are omitted from the P&PW draft that are addressed in TCNOLA’s tree protection draft ordinance—as drafted and distributed in March 2024 by Tree Canopy NOLA.

See the side-by-side comparison of the P&PW and TCNOLA proposed draft ordinances.
